TO RUSSIA WITH LOVE . . . The Fort Wayne Lutherans for Life is placing a focus on the two pregnancy centers in Russia. These two centers were established by LCMS World Relief and human Care. Our group wants to show and send our support to the two agencies for the work they have been doing and to encourage them. Our children from Emmanuel-St. Michael Lutheran School and Emmanuel Lutheran Church’s Sunday School, are working with the ladies who quilt to make baby blankets.

Tony Booker, a seminary student at Concordia Seminary and pastoral assistant at Emmauel, has knowledge of the Russian language and is assisting along with his wife Connie, in teaching the students a few Russian words, which they will print on the quilts.

Pavel Khramov and his wife Tanya and children, Tonya and Sasha, are living in Fort Wayne while Pavel is attending the seminary. He is familiar with the two deaconesses working in the pregnancy centers in Russia.

Maggie Karner, Director of Life Ministries, will join us October 12th at our kick-off campaign at the annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast held in the Emmanuel-St. Michael School’s cafeteria from 7:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A freewill offering will be taken and proceeds will go to buy fabric and to send a monetary gift to the centers. Any donation will be gladly accepted if you cannot attend the breakfast. Our goal is to reach $4,800 for which Thrivent for Lutherans will match 3-1 up to $1,600. If you would like to make a donation, please send your check, made payable to Lutherans for Life, to Fort Wayne Lutherans for Life, 917 West Jefferson Boulevard, Fort Wayne, IN 46802.

On Life Sunday, January 18, 2009, these quilts will be dedicated and presented to Mr. Khramov for the two centers in Russia.
